Rhino-Shapeways Container CLUTCH

Container 2/ “Beauty” Clutch

The assignment was to create a container, by utilizing Rhino and Shapeways. The container itself had to be based off of the first metal container we created by hand. My original container was the locket pendant that contained lipstick, as I wanted to create a piece of jewelry that can also be functional. So, for my second container I created a clutch, similar in shape to my first container. When I thought about what it should contain, I wanted to tie it to my original container and the lipstick it contained. When I think about lipstick, and makeup, in general, I think about beauty and the idea of our society that a woman has to be beautiful in order to be successful and happy. So I decided that my clutch would contain “beauty”, as a “key” to success and happiness. To represent beauty I made a collage of eyes and lips – the facial features that we first think about, when we think of beauty.  I placed the collage inside the clutch, as a lining on both the interior walls.

My_LIPSTICK LOCKET/CONTAINER_ finished

Artist’s Statement

I created this antique-inspired locket/lipstick container. It was designed to be wearable and practical, a piece of jewelry that can be worn containing lipstick or other small object, or with nothing in it.
I used brass, leather, fabric, and thread as my materials for this project.

Sketches for the LOCKET/CONTAINER

Feedback on my Locket

Gadow, KatieLynn Marie (ACMETA-L):

The contrasting metals are really effective, Im not sure what type of
finish you are going to be putting on it, but it might be nice to
enhance the contrast even more by putting a dark patina on the copper
and leaving the brass with a high shine. This might focus the
attention more on the window that shows the lipstick as well.

Julien Luba wow. lipstick must be so expensive to keep it there:) Love it. How are u planning to use it? On your neck?

Me:Yeah, an expensive CHANEL lipstick))) It is supposed to be worn on your neck, do you think it's too big?

Julien Luba looks like a thing for a parfume or ashes. I think it pretty but not to wear on your neck. Sorry

Me: It's going to hang on a long cord, so technically, it's not going to be near your neck, more like a stomach area. But, anyways, thanks for the honest opinion)

Nicole Bellmyer i like the design of it but it would be nice to see really how big it is compare to something everyone knows the size of to really get the idea of how big it really is going to be...are you leaving the front open so people can see the lipstick...you should show it open maybe with a lipstick inside so you can get the full effect but overall the design is really nice and i like how you incorporated the Y at the top is that your logo? ...oh when i was little i had a chapstick holder necklace and it was my favorite thing i wore all the time and i always had my chapstick i never lost it lol

Gangibasina Seroga I like your design, the locket looks great!!! The only thing I would suggest, if you want to change it, is to play with the "Y" logo at the top, change it to better suite your design)))
